It seems that the Nigeria Police Force has arrested three individuals—Adebukola Kolapo, Nnedum Somtomchukwu, and Isaac Akpokighe—accused of cyberstalking through their alleged involvement with the blog site GistLover. The Police claim that the suspects are members of a group called Gistlover family, responsible for running the Gistlover blog, known for cyberstalking, intimidation, extortion, and other activities that have drawn public criticism over the years.
The first suspect, Adebukola Kolapo, is alleged to be a
significant contributor to the blog, responsible for creating more than 80% of
the Gistlover pages. He is accused of researching, editing, and subtitling
contents related to cyberstalking posts against the complainants. The Police
also claim that Adebukola was involved in laundering money received from the
illegal scheme.
The second suspect, Ine Nnedum Somtochukwu, is said to have
participated in the scheme by redirecting traffic to new pages whenever the
blog was taken down for violations. He allegedly received incentives such as
promotions from the head of the organization and shared disparaging comments.
The third suspect, Isaac Akpokighe, is described as someone who,
like many Nigerians, noticed the lucrative nature of cyberstalking, digital
stalking, and spreading false information, and chose to emulate the Gistlover
blog. Digital forensics allegedly led to the recovery of pages created by Isaac
Apkokogho.
The Police state that the suspects will be charged to court upon
the completion of the investigation. However, the Gistlover Instagram handle
denies the allegations, accusing the police of unprofessionalism and
challenging them to provide evidence linking the arrested individuals to
Gistlover. The blog also mocks the police, calling them a "big joke"
and questioning their actions.
It's important to note that these are the
claims made by the Nigeria Police Force and the Gistlover blog, and the
accuracy of these allegations would need to be determined through legal
proceedings.
The conflict between the police and Gistlover adds another layer of complexity to the already controversial nature of the blog. As both parties present their sides, the truth remains uncertain, emphasizing the importance of a thorough and unbiased investigation. The fate of the alleged Gistlover operators will be determined in the court of law, where evidence and legal arguments will play a crucial role in establishing the veracity of the police claims or the blogger's disavowal.
